A Teamwork focused activity encouraging the development of “the team” through explanation and trialling of a range of team work strategies. During the activity, the team has to design and construct a raft capable of moving the team into the water and the return journey to a buoy placed up to twenty metres from the shore. The team has to choose from given materials (flotation tubes, structural poles and rope lashings) and make decisions during the planning stage as to the design, functional use of materials, position of the rafters and the elimination of an emerging project management issues.
Explanation of the construction procedure maybe delivered through “direct instruction” or as an open ended problem - “build it and see!”
Junior rafting employs additional material including flotation tubes, “bungee” ties and pre-drilled deck boards.
